Grow North Farm provides opportunity for early-stage food businesses to grow and scale. Local growers and emerging entrepreneurs can test their products and scale their sales month-to- month, and community members can support up-and-coming talent and local food. Over 20 neighborhood farmers, including 9 independent businesses, are farming on-site, all of whom are of refugee or immigrant backgrounds. All of the farmers receive food business and agriculture training hosted by Set Up Shop and our partner agency, the Refugee Assistance and Immigration Services program at Catholic Social Services.Grow North Farm creates an opportunity where there was a vacancy. Participating growers can earn increased income, build their business skills, grow food security, maintain good health and wellbeing, and build generational wealth for their families. At the same time, the Farm provides a space for the community to gather with regular programming and events. Customers are invited on-site Monday-Friday to purchase fresh produce and tour the space. Grow It Green Morristown creates sustainable farms and gardens, and educates communities on healthy eating and environmental stewardship. We believe that fresh, local food should be accessible to all.

Growing Hope fosters an equitable and sustainable local food system where all people are empowered to grow, sell, buy, prepare, and eat nourishing food.

Detroit neighborhoods have been in a downward spiral defined by expanding blight since the 1960's. John Hantz, long time Detroit resident and CEO of the Hantz Group, approached city government in 2008 with a proposal to revitalize neighborhoods using the skills and resources of Hantz Group employees to establish a large farm. The desired outcome was cleaner, safer neighborhoods, improved property values, a rekindled local economy, and improved schools.

Grow Hartford is a youth program that advocates against social injustices such as food injustice, racism, and adultism. Our mission is to not only bring awareness to these issues but to also motivate citizens to bring change.

Urban Growers Collective’s work aims to address the inequities and structural racism that exist in the food system and in communities of color. Research suggests that urban agriculture can produce a range of social, health, and economic benefits for communities. We believe engaging in this work will ultimately lead to healing trauma on many levels and will improve the economic vitality and overall health of communities in Chicago. Our approach is to build economic opportunity for urban farmers and ranchers, mitigate food insecurity, and increase access to high quality, affordable, and nutritionally-dense food on Chicago’s South and West Sides. As a Black- and women-led organization, healing through food justice is integral to our mission and in our approach to creating a market for urban growers, providing good food for the communities we serve, and throughout all of our programming.

Grow Ohio Valley is working to fashion a new economic landscape, one offering increased prosperity, improved health and a better environment.

That’s why we’ve been helping people find meaningful careers through skills learned while farming since 2002. Growing Home is Chicago’s leading expert in farm-based training for people with employment barriers. By providing 25 hours per week of paid on-the-job experience and job-readiness training at our farms, plus the support to conquer issues like criminal records, medical needs, child-care, and housing, we have changed the lives of hundreds of workers, and thousands of their family members.

Growing Hope Farm is a not-for-profit social enterprise. We give volunteer opportunities to people who have serious barriers to employment to come and be part of the family and learn new skills in the process. All profits are either invested back into the farm (ie. fences, food for animals etc) and/or donated to Mennonite Central Committee. Check out their website to see what they do around the world. www.mcccanada.ca. Sarah and Philip work entirely as volunteers and do not take a wage so more money can be directed back to MCC. To date we have donated $37,000 to help MCC give farmers overseas a chance to have access to livestock, land, skills training, irrigation, etc.

Harlem Grown is an independent, non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire youth to lead healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition. Founded in 2011, we operate local urban farms, increase access to and knowledge of healthy food for Harlem residents, and provide garden-based development programs to Harlem youth.

For many low income communities, good jobs and healthy food are in short supply. To help solve both problems, Heartland Human Care Services (HHCS), in partnership with the City of Chicago, NeighborSpace, and the Greater Chicago Food Depository, operates a 2.6 acre urban farm in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood. We distribute local produce of the highest quality to those who need it most, while supporting people working overcoming multiple barriers to employment to secure full-time, permanent, viable jobs.

Methodist Services provides life enriching programs to children, adults and families as they face the challenges of limited resources, increased poverty, homelessness, disabilities and inequities in education. We provide early childhood education, school age programs, housing services, supports for families, mental health and counseling services, and nutrition programs.
